RMC has multiple openings for a research associate/technical assistance provider to support the work of Reading First. Positions are available in the following RMC offices: Arlington, VA; Austin, TX; and Portland, OR.
Duties - Deliver technical assistance to states and districts to aid them in the high quality implementation of their approved Reading First grants.
- Assist state Reading First directors by providing content expertise in scientifically based reading instruction, assessment, and professional development.
- Collaborate with technical assistance center staff on design and delivery of technical assistance services.
- Develop new materials and tools for providing technical assistance to states.
- Contribute to RMC capabilities, effectiveness, credibility, activities, visibility, and growth by staying informed of developments in reading research, by participating in meetings and conferences, and by identifying potential projects and partnering opportunities for RMC
Qualifications - Master's degree in education with specialization in reading preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a reading specialist, reading coach, reading coordinator, or in some other reading leadership position with elementary teaching experience in reading desirable.
- Experience as a practitioner in a Reading First capacity desirable. The ideal candidate would also have experience in leading or supporting school improvement efforts.
- Knowledge of scientifically based reading instruction and assessment.
- In-depth knowledge of K-3 reading programs, materials, instructional strategies, and assessments that are scientifically research based. An ideal candidate would also have knowledge of and experience in adolescent literacy.
- Knowledge of key programs in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001: Reading First, other Title I programs (e. g., Basic, Even Start, Comprehensive School Reform, Dropout Prevention), and Title III (Language Instruction for Limited English Proficient and Immigrant Students). The ideal candidate would also have knowledge of Response to Intervention as an instructional framework.
- Experience in providing technical assistance and consultation to districts or schools in implementing scientifically based reading instruction. The ideal candidate would also have experience in providing technical assistance and consultation to personnel in state departments of education.
- Significant knowledge of the current research, issues and trends in scientifically-based reading research and instruction, assessment, and using data to make instructional decisions.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, public presentation and organization.
- Demonstrated skill working independently in a multi-task environment with stringent deadlines.
- Must be skilled in the use of Windows applications, including word processing, graphic development, e-mail, and accessing information via the Internet.
- Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to the ability to lead, supervise, mentor, and work collaboratively with colleagues and clients.
- This is an exempt position that requires the ability and willingness to travel (including overnight and commercial air travel).
- Ability to maintain a strong professional presence that reflects the integrity and high quality services associated with RMC.
